Red Wings Post-Game Notes 8/27

Posted August 27th, 2014 10:48pm

THE ROCHESTER RED WINGS allowed two runs in the 7th and two more in the 8th to fall 4-3 in the opener of a two-game set against the first-place Syracuse Chiefs on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. The Wings remain just 2.0 games out of the Wild Card after Pawtucket lost to Lehigh Valley 5-1 in Allentown. With the loss, the Wings were officially eliminated from winning the North division. The Wings - who carried a 3-0 lead into the 7th and a 3-2 lead into the 8th - lost when leading after 7 innings for just the 5th time this season.

→CHRIS HERRMANN (1-for-4; HR, R, 2 RBI) gave the Wings the early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning off Aaron Laffey. The homer was Herrmann’s 4th of the season in 56 games -- his first away from Frontier Field and his first homer that has come with a runner on base...The Wings outfielder is now hitting .366 (15-41) with 8 XBH and 7 RBI over his last 12 games.

→KRIS JOHNSON was denied his first win since July 27 and his first road victory since June 4 as the bullpen couldn’t hold a 3-2 lead for the left-hander. Johnson - who allowed just 2 runs over 6.0 innings - entered his start 0-3 with a 9.64 ERA in 4 August starts and was 0-2 with a 7.43 ERA in his previous 3 starts against the Chiefs this season.

→RISP: The Wings went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position on Wednesday and are now batting only .174 (20-for-115) with RISP over their last 14 games.

→LESTER OLIVEROS saw his scoreless streak snapped at 20 2/3 innings in the 8th -- the longest by a Wings pitcher this season. Over the streak which spanned 11-plus outings, Oliveros allowed 13 hits and 7 walks with 32 strikeouts. The hard-throwing right-hander did strikeout multiple hitters in his 15th straight appearance (41 SO/25.1 IP)...Prior to tonight, the Wings bullpen had allowed just 6 ER over the last 12 games (1.40 ERA).
