Blue Jays acquire All-Star 3B Josh Donaldson in trade with Oakland

 November 28, 2014 –The Toronto Blue Jays tonight acquired All-Star 3B JOSH DONALDSON in a five-player trade with the Oakland Athletics. Among the four players dealt to Oakland by Toronto are now former Bisons pitchers, KENDALL GRAVEMAN and SEAN NOLIN.

Toronto also included INF BRETT LAWRIE and INF FRANKLIN BARRETO in the trade for Donaldson.

NOLIN has spent time with the Bisons in each of the last two seasons. In 2014, the southpaw led the Bisons with 17 starts and was 4-6 with a 3.50 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 87.1 innings of work. He missed a total of 51 games on the disabled list with a pair of groin injuries during the campaign. Buffalo was 8-9 in his 17 starts.

GRAVEMAN joined the Bisons in August and was fantastic in his first month at the Triple-A level. The righty was 3-2 with a 1.88 ERA and 22 strikeouts, delivering five quality starts in his six outings with the team. Overall, Gravemen was 14-6 with a 1.83 ERA in 27 total starts at three levels of the Blue Jays minor league system in 2014.

DONALDSON, 28, finished eighth in the American League MVP voting in 2014 after batting .255 with 31 doubles, 29 home runs and 98 RBI while posting an on-base percentage of .342. He was 6th in the American League in walks (76), 8th in runs scored (93), 9th in home runs and total bases (289) and 10th in RBI and extra base hits (62). In the past two seasons the third baseman has appeared in 316 games with 182 runs scored, 68 doubles, 53 home runs, 191 RBI and 566 total bases. In his four seasons, he has a career batting average of .268 with 63 home runs and 228 RBI in 405 games with a .347 on-base percentage and an OPS of .805.
