Posted November 23rd, 2014 10:23pm

CLEVELAND, OH – The State University of New York, Buffalo men's and women's swimming teams had a strong finish to the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State University on Sunday. Despite missing the first day of competition and not having any divers in the meet due to travel issues, the women's team still managed to finish third of 10 teams and the men finished third out of five teams.
Senior Spencer Rodriguez paced the women's team by winning an individual event and being part of a winning relay team. Rodriguez started the day off by winning the 1650 freestyle with a meet-record time of 16:49.01.
Freshman Megan Burns stayed perfect on the season in the 100 freestyle, winning the race in 50.59 – her best time of the season.
The women also set a meet record en route to winning the 400 freestyle relay. Rodriguez, Eve Kosten, Taylor Steffl and Burns finished with a time of 3:24.89.
On the men's side, the Bulls swept the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke. Scott Huang won the race with a time 2:01.70. Garrett Clarke finished second and Itai De La Vega took third.
Eric Jensen won the 50 backstroke in 23.34. Jonathan Ekas finished second with a time of 24.07.
Matt Bitara won his second individual event of the weekend by taking the 200 butterfly in 1:50.08.
Finally, the UB men won the 400 freestyle relay. Antonio Lanzi, Jensen, Bitara and Oliver Patrouch finished with a time of 3:01.36.
The Bulls have a bit of a break as they won't compete again until they host Canisius on December 18.
