Ski High Adventure Park Opens at Holiday Valley Resort

Posted April 29th, 2011 2:04pm

Holiday Valley is building the Sky High Adventure Park in the Tannenbaum area. Two of the components of Sky High will be a Mountain Coaster and an Aerial Adventure Park.
Construction of the Aerial Park began in January and this park will open on May 21, 2011! The Aerial Park is a series of platforms and “bridges” built in a 4 acre section of the woods. The platforms are built in the trees and the bridges connect the platforms. The bridge may be a log, hanging chunks of wood or many other options and the challenge is to figure out how to get across to the next platform. It is not a strength issue; it is more strategy and balance. There are 8 courses with different levels of difficulty and the more difficult the course, the higher up it is in the trees. Some courses have zip lines between areas, but it is very different from what most people think of as zip lines. Everyone wears a harness that has a special locking lanyard that safeguards you from falling if you slip or let go. Children must be at least 7 years old, and all guests must be able to perform certain physical tasks to participate.
The Mountain Coaster is similar to a roller coaster that is built on a mountain. People ride in a “car” and the car is attached to rails that follow a zig zagging spiraling path down the mountain. Riders are able to control their speed with brakes on the car. Logging for the Mountain Coaster has begun we'll be open for business in July. Children must be at least 36 inches tall to ride with an adult or 42 inches tall to ride alone. All guests must be able to perform certain physical tasks to participate.
Mountain Coaster Stats...
Uphill track 1865 feet long, vertical rise is 283 feet
Downhill track consists of 15 curves of varying length, 12 waves, 1 jump! Plus a huge circle / spiral.
The downhill has a maximum track grade of 23.6% and is 2,940 ft in length.
The overall ride is 4,805 ft long
