In just a few shorts weeks, thousands of avid skiers, snowboarders and outdoor enthusiasts will make their annual pilgrimage to the quaint Village of Ellicottville in Western New York’s southern tier for some excitement on the slopes. And for those not interested in conquering the hills, the shopping, restaurants and nightlife aren’t too bad either!

The Hamilton Tiger Cats are down to their ninth life as the team’s post-season hopes are quickly fading.
 
The team has to win its three remaining games and hope the Argos or Eskimos lose their last three to guarantee the Cats a second place finish in the East or fourth place via of the crossover in the West.
 
The way the Cats fell to the BC Lions last Friday night in Hamilton - it appears the Tabbies have already danced their final waltz of the 2012 regular season even though they have three games remaining.

It was 40 years ago today that Paul Henderson scored the Goal Of The Century.
 
I remember it like it was yesterday as Henderson’s goal with 34 seconds remaining in game eight of the Summit Series against the Soviet Union, gave Canada a 6-5 win and the series based on four wins and a tie.
 
The Russians earned a 2-1-1 record after the first four games in Canada and won game five at home. Canada, who was supposed to take the series with little difficulty, was reeling going into the final three games.

It was a standing room only crowd Monday night for the premiere of the 30-minute live broadcast of “The Fred Jackson Show” on WBBZ-TV. Joining the Buffalo Bills running back at WBBZ’s new studio in the Eastern Hills Mall was co-host Bob Koshinski and Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Players and coaches from the Orchard Park and St. Francis high school football teams filled the seats, along with a solid showing of Buffalo Bills fans. Three members of the Buffalo Jills also took part in the festivities.

Golfers and sponsors are still being recruited for the annual 14 Holy Helpers Home School Association Golf Outing taking place on Friday, Sept. 14, at Chestnut Hill Country Club, 1330 Broadway, Darien Center.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The golf outing will feature a scramble format and there will be a split club raffle, door prizes, contests, a live auction and more.

The Buffalo Bisons announced that OF Fred Lewis has been named the team’s Stan Barron Most Valuable Player for the 2012 season. The Herd also named RHP Matt Harvey its Warren Spahn Most Valuable Pitcher prior to Fan Appreciation Night on Tuesday.

The Buffalo Bisons will celebrate Fan Appreciation Night at 6:05 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) during their final home game of the 2012 season against the rival Rochester Red Wings at Coca-Cola Field.
 
The final home game of each season has traditionally been the Bisons opportunity to thank their fans for all their great support through another exciting season of baseball and fun at Coca-Cola Field.

The Hamilton Tiger Cats have played 41 times on Labour Day Weekend at Ivor Wynne Stadium since 1971 with 15 matchups against teams other than Toronto. Hamilton has won 10 and tied one. Here are my top-five Labour Day Memories - not involving the Argos - beginning with Labour Day 1974!!

Ahhhh.....yes!!

The final Monday of August with just a week to go prior to the annual Argo/Tiger Cat Labour Day classic in Hamilton. The two Southern Ontario rivals have met 26 times since 1971 with the Cats boasting 17 wins and a tie.
