Buffalo Boxing Hall of Fame 2012 - Story

Buffalo Veteran Boxers Association Ring 44 members selected their 2012 inductees for hall of fame honors. The induction ceremony and annual dinner will be held in August at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. The five new members to be enshrined are:

The Bomb Squad Club at the Flare Center on Leroy Ave. in Buffalo hosted a ten bout amateur card Saturday afternoon. Teams from St. Catherines, Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Rochester competed at the event. John Paul Barone of Thunder Boxing and Joey Krebs from Casal's Boxing opened the show in a 60 pound contest. The little boxers put on such an exhibition that it was voted fight of the night by the ringside officials. Barone earned a razor thin decision (2-1) in the exciting battle. Other winners:

Ray Casal of Casal’s Boxing Club hosted Fight Night II on November 19 at his gym in Niagara Falls. Another sell-out crowd witnessed thirteen bouts with gyms from Rochester, Buffalo, North Tonawanda and of course the home gym. Fight of The Night laurels were bestowed on Antonio Smith of Victory Gym and Joe Portera of the University of Buffalo. The two battled back and forth to a very close three round decision, with Smith earning three of the five judges cards. There were many bouts in contention for the best fight of night. St. John's Church in Buffalo hosted a seven bout amateur card on Friday August 26th at their Life Center Gym. Former world champion Charles "The Natural" Murray brought Team Natural from Rochester. St. Catherines, the Buffalo PAL, the Decatur, Alabama Youth Organization and St. John’s Boxing rounded out the teams competing. The results:

The second annual Buffalo Club Golden Gloves Invitational was held Friday July 15th with boxers from Rochester (St. Martin, Future and Baden St.), Salamanca, North Tonawanda (Thunder Boxing), Buffalo, Erie and Ontario (Steeletown).
Over 300 members and guests of the Buffalo Club on Delaware Ave. witnessed 15 bouts outside under a large tent. The results:

 Jr. welterweight Felix Mercedes of Buffalo improved to 11-0 Saturday night in Yucatan, Mexico. Felix scored his sixth straight knockout in the last seven months for a total of nine KO's in his eleven wins.Mercedes who is trained by Juan Deleon is looking forward to fighting in Buffalo in the near future.
