The AHL Amerks is the breeding ground for future Buffalo Sabres players and now more than ever is it important for them to hone the skills of their young players. Rochester (9-11-1) is currently third in the North Division of the Western Conference, 11 points out of first place. The idea was to have the young Sabre prospects gain some available experience in the AHL and hopefully grow in a playoff run. They need to improve in some areas to get in playoff position.

Zemgus Girgensons faces an interesting dilemma.

The Buffalo Sabres second first round draft pick of 2012, due to playing in the USHL, can either stick with his commitment to play at the University of Vermont, or begin his professional career at age 18 with the Rochester Americans.

The question has been asked countless times since the draft, and now the time has come that Girgensons will really begin to decide his playing future.

The fans spoke and the Buffalo Sabres have listened - the organization is building a statue of the famed French Connection line outside First Niagara Center.  It's a tribute that has been a long time coming.

He's not the best player on the ice, but Frederick Roy does come from the best roots.

Roy is the son of NHL legend and hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Roy, arguably the greatest goaltender of all time. He knows how much his name means in hockey.

Hodgson embracing time in Buffalo - Blog

Posted by Michael Straw on July 9, 2012 - 11:41pm

It was a bit of a whirlwind time for Sabres center Cody Hodgson last Spring.

He went from being on a top team in Vancouver to a team fighting just to make the postseason. He was acquired in the middle of a long road trip which required an unusually excessive amount of travel; he had to fly from Vancouver to Buffalo to California.

He was also inserted right into the top line for the Sabres and was immediately expected to help spark a team that was desperate for offense.
