BUFFALO SABRES HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE RECEIVES OVER 70 FAN SUGGESTIONS - Press Release

 BUFFALO, NY (March 29, 2012) --- The Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced today that it has reviewed more than 70 suggestions from the fans for selections into the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame.

Under the by-laws and practices of the Committee, the count of suggestions is confidential but the following names were included among the fans’ suggestions: Dominik Hasek, Rob Ray, Maxim Afinogenov, Chris Drury, Tom Barrasso, Stu Barnes and Rick Dudley.

 BUFFALO, NY (February 27, 2012) --- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the Sabres have acquired center Cody Hodgson and defenseman Alexander Sulzer from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Zack Kassian and defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani.

Two weeks ago the Buffalo Sabres were in the midst of the longest road losing streak in franchise history. The season seemed all but over and the playoffs were completely out of the question with the way the team was performing.

 Buffalo Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff suffered three broken ribs following a collision with Sabres defenseman Jordan Leopold during the team’s practice this morning at First Niagara Center. He is expected to be back tomorrow to resume his coaching responsibilities.

 With just over three weeks to go until the NHL’s trade deadline -- Monday, February 27 at 3 p.m. -- it’s been interesting to watch the landscape change in wake of some significant contracts being signed by defensemen who were set to become free agents: Tim Gleason (4 years, $16 million with Carolina), Alex Goligoski (4 years, $18.4 million with Dallas), Francois Beauchemin (3 years, $10.5 million with Anaheim) and John-Michael Liles (4 years, $15.5 million with Toronto).

As we approach All-star Weekend the Buffalo Sabres’ and their fans enter the break with a feeling of what could’ve been. The season began with so much promise and the expectations were through the roof. Terry Pegula did what previous ownership refused to do and actually spent money in the offseason. He brought in prized free agents in Christian Ehrhoff and Ville Leino. He also persuaded veteran defensemen Robyn Regehr to waive his no trade clause and join the Sabres. Everything was in place for a deep playoff run towards the ultimate goal of a Stanley Cup.

 BUFFALO, N.Y. (September 13, 2011) – The Buffalo Sabres today announced that a select number of the team’s preseason games will be broadcast on MSG and streamed live on Sabres.com, as well as Wednesday’s Traverse City Championship game between the Sabres and the New York Rangers. MSG will also carry the team’s home preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sept. 24. In addition to the games being broadcast on MSG, the Sabres’ preseason home opener against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sept. 19 will be streamed live online.

 International hockey suffered a devastating loss Wednesday when all but one member of a major Russian hockey team died during the crash of a jet after takeoff near the city of Yaroslavl.
The plane was carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl club when it slammed into a riverbank on the Volga River, 150 miles northeast of Moscow. All but two of the 45 people onboard died.
Those in the plane included former NHL All-Star Pavol Demitra and Lokomotiv coach Brad McCrimmon, a longtime NHL assistant and defenseman.
