University at Buffalo Men’s Basketball Signs Andre McPhail

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men’s basketball head coach Reggie Witherspoon has announced the signing of Andre McPhail to a National Letter of Intent. The 6-7, 240-lb. forward will join the Bulls for the 2012-13 season.
“Andre comes to us with a background of hard work and achievement. We’re really excited to have him coming into our program,” Witherspoon said. “He impressed a lot of people on his visit and he brings a tremendous temperament and skill set to our program.”
McPhail hails from Antioch, CA where he attended Deer Valley High School and played for head coach Lechet Phillips. Over his three-year career, he averaged 17.7 points, 15.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game while shooting 61 percent from the field. He recorded 50 double-doubles in 64 career games.
Following high school, McPhail split time between two prep schools. He started the year at La Jolla Prep where he played 25 games for head coach Bobby Bossman and averaged 14 points and 10 rebound per contest. La Jolla faced accreditation issues midseason, so he transferred to Stoneridge Prep in January.
He played 11 games for the Wildcats and head coach Les Bean and averaged 7.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. Once he got acclimated with coach Bean’s system, he was inserted in the starting lineup for the final seven games of the season and had five double-doubles while averaging 11.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
McPhail joins fellow incoming freshmen Jarryn Skeete, a 6-3 point guard from Brompton, Ontario and Stan Wier, a 6-3 guard from East Aurora, NY.
