Golf Review: Ravenwood

There are many reasons to play Ravenwood Golf Club. First off, Ravenwood, located just off the New York State Thruway in the Rochester suburb of Victor, is a beautiful place. From the rolling hills, to the scenic views to the outstanding clubhouse to the perfect conditions of the grounds, it is a joy just to sit back and look at all Ravenwood has to offer.
Secondly, Ravenwood came out of the gate as the 5th best new public golf course in America when its doors opened in 2003. There is plenty of challenge from the tips at 7100 yards to the forward of the five sets of tees at 4900 yards. The average guy will play the blues at 6200, while the ladies prefer the fun of the silver tees at 5600 yards. Considering Ravenwood has hosted two New York State Amateurs and a U.S. Open qualifier, it can be a great test of golf, but playing a championship golf course with the chance to make some birdies is absolutely the best way to play. Pick a good yardage for your game and have a great day on a great course.
From there, the reasons to play Ravenwood are plentiful.
“As you know, Fall golf is as good as it gets,” says General Manager and Head PGA Pro Mike Roeder. “Rates go down and the course is in great shape. Ravenwood is right now in the best shape I have seen it in a number of years.”
Personally, I have never seen Ravenwood NOT in great shape. Fall is cooler and easier on the grasses, but Ravenwood Superintendent Peter George does a marvelous job throughout the year. The many bunkers are always in great shape, the greens are smooth and offer a true roll and the fairways and tee boxes are as good as it gets.
As for the rates, Ravenwood has two and three-day packages that are second to none, especially in cost. Right now you can get a three-day golf, two-night hotel package for $249 weekdays and just $269 on weekends. The package includes daily golf with cart and all carts are equipped with the Pro Link GPS system. You also get lunch at the turn and hotel with all taxes included. Wow, that’s hard to beat. If you break it down you are talking about $50 per round, including lunch and just $50 per person for a hotel night. And, it’s at Ravenwood, one of the premier golf courses in NY State. Pretty impressive. If you want a shorter package, you can try the two-day/one night deal of just $149 weekdays and $169 weekends. Just want to take your foursome out for a day? Four weekday rounds with range are $199 weekdays or $239 weekends. Anyway you look at it, Fall rates are in gear and Ravenwood is always a great place to play.
If you have a larger group or tournament that wants to play Ravenwood, they offer live leaderboard standings on the Pro Link GPS, which is always fun. They offer dinner packages and one of the greatest practice facilities anywhere.
You want more? Ravenwood is part of the Finger Lakes Golf Trail. You can take advantage of their “Stay and Play” packages with rounds at Greystone, Mill Creek and Bristol Harbour Resort. Play one, two or all four courses and make it a trip you will never forget. All four facilities are among the top public golf courses in NY State. It’s a can’t miss get-away that’s not far away. Catch it when the leaves start to change and you’ll see some of the greatest golf scenery there is to offer anywhere. If you can’t tell, I’m ready to make my reservations right now. For your sake, I hope you do to. You can thank me later.
