WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - May 21 - Erie Community College sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) was named the Region III most valuable player. Barry, an outfielder/pitcher, hit .464 this past season with a school-record 71 runs batted to go with 24 doubles and 12 home runs. Barry also recorded a 6-3 record as a pitched and struck out a team-high 66 batters in 58 innings. Barry's 71 RBI and 24 doubles also lead the NJCAA Division III.
Joining Barry on the first team was freshman pitcher Michael Schnurr (Waterloo, Ont./St. David's). Schnurr posted a 9-0 record while pitching a school-record 77.1 innings. Schnurr struck out 53.
Barry becomes the second-straight ECC player to be named the Region III MVP. Michael Wagner was the 2012 MVP.
The Kats went 39-20 and finished as the Region III Tournament runners-up. The 39 wins tied the school record by the 2005 team.
