Five Former Major Leaguers to Make Appearances at Frontier Field in '12 - Blog

Five former major leaguers will sign autographs at Frontier Field this summer, including former Twins Jim Kaat and Kent Hrbek, as well as John Flaherty, Dave Stewart, and Gregg Zaun.
Stewart (June 20), Kaat (July 24), Zaun (August 6) and Hrbek (August 8) will appear at Red Wings home games, while Flaherty will come to a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game at Frontier Field (July 31).

Evan Longoria will play at Frontier Field Monday as he rehabs with the Durham Bulls, the Rochester Red Wings announced Sunday through its Twitter account.

The Tampa Bay Rays’ All-Star third baseman has been on the disabled list since May 1 with a partially torn hamstring. He joined the Bulls Saturday in Lehigh Valley, Pa., going 1-for-4 followed by a regularly scheduled off-day Sunday.

The Red Wings (27-33) are slowly crawling back, gaining respectability.
With a 2-1 walk-off win against Norfolk in 13 innings Thursday, Rochester displayed confidence in a lengthy, close game, and also the ability to come up with the “big” hit – something that manager Gene Glynn said had been missing in other Red Wings’ losses.

The 2012 AAA All-Star Game is just over a month away which means the rosters are getting closer to being finalized.  The rosters are determined by three factors, fan voting, media, and field staffs.
After two weeks of fan voting, Bisons pitcher Matt Harvey, and designated hitter Valentino Pascucci lead all International League players in votes at their respective positions.  Outfielder and frequent third baseman Matt Tuiasosopo and pitcher Fernando Cabrera are also in position to be starters in this year's game.

The run is over for Buster Bison.
After topping Louie, the Bowie Baysox mascot, in the first round of the 64 mascot tournament, the second-seeded Buster came up against tough competition in Slugger the Portland Sea Dogs mascot.
After six days of voting, Slugger topped Buster in the round of 32 moving on to face Nutzy from the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

May 29, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced the team will recall Bisons RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN and select the contract of Buffalo’s INF OMAR QUINTANILLA prior to their game tonight.

With the roster space, INF SEAN KAZMAR has been promoted from Double-A Binghamton and RHP JEFF STEVENS has been activated off the Bisons disabled list.
