Kats Open 2013 Season with Two Wins - Press Release

TAMPA, Fla. - March 9 - The Erie Community College baseball team used a run in the seventh inning to pick up an 8-7 win over Minnesota State Community and Technical College Friday night to open the 2013 season. The Kats then handed MSCTC a 12-6 loss in the nightcap. In Saturday's action, ECC fell 12-5 to Pasco Hernando CC.
Sophomore Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) led off the inning with a double and then scored on a bunt single by sophomore Nick Galenti (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's).

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Oct. 19 - Two members of the Erie Community College baseball team were named first-team selections to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference team today, announced by the league. Freshman Mike D'Eletto (Walworth, N.Y./Wayne Central) was chosen as an infielder and sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) was picked as an outfielder.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Sept. 25 - The Erie Community College baseball team recorded a 14-3 win over Jamestown CC Tuesday afternoon at the ECC North Campus in the first round of the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Kats, now 7-4, advance to play Mercyhurst North East, which defeated Alfred State 7-6 in 10 innings. The ECC/MNE game will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia. The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday. Due to rain, ECC did not play Mercyhurst North East in the 2012 fall season. 

Kats Face Jamestown CC on Diamond Tuesday - Press Release

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Sept. 24 - The Erie Community College baseball team will play Jamestown Community College at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the ECC North Campus. The nine-inning game is part of the opening round of the Western New York Athletic Conference tournament.
The winner advances to play the winner of the Alfred State/Mercyhurst North East contest Saturday in the WNYAC semifinals at 2 p.m. in Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, N.Y. The tournament championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Sept. 16 – The Erie Community College baseball team picked up two wins in Sunday’s Western New York Athletic Conference doubleheader against Jamestown CC at the ECC North Campus.
The Kats, now 5-3, won 11-1 and 13-3 over Jamestown CC. Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) hit two home runs in the opener and then added a grand slam in the second game. He finished the series with five hits and eight runs batted in.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Sept. 15 - The Erie Community College baseball team suffered two losses Saturday afternoon in Western New York Athletic Conference action at the ECC North Campus. Genesee CC downed the Kats 12-6 in the opener and then recorded a 3-2 win in the nightcap.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Aug. 7 - Seven members of the 2012 Erie Community College baseball team will continue their baseball careers at four-year institutions.
Shortstop Joe Pantano (Fredonia, N.Y./St. Francis) and outfielder Adam Urschel (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) will play at Mercyhurst (Pa.) College, a NCAA Division II member and participant in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Former Kat Shane Latshaw was a third-team All-America selection this spring for the Lakers.

UB Player Wins The Prestigious ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove Award - Blog

University of Buffalo’s junior outfielder Jason Kanzler became the first player in school history to receive the ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove Award which recognizes excellence of defense throughout the college baseball season. The award is given to nine players in the entire country. The Rochester area (Penfield High School graduate) helped lead the Bulls to their first trip to the Mid-Atlantic Conference tournament this past season. He recorded 197 putouts, a perfect 1.000% fielding percentage and 11 outfielder assists.

The New York Collegiate Baseball League honored two Erie Community College baseball players this past week. The NYCBL, founded in 1978, is a summer wood bat development league for professional baseball.
