ECC's Wagner Named to NJCAA All-America First Team - Press Release

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – June 12 – Mike Wagner, a sophomore pitcher/infielder on the Erie Community College baseball team, was named a 2012 NJCAA Division III First-Team All-America selection, announced today by the NJCAA. Wagner (Williamsville/St. Mary’s) is the first Kat named as a first-team selection since Bill Kenyon in 2005. ECC’s last All-Americans were Scott Latshaw (second team) and Emilio Artete third-team) in 2010.

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - May 13 - Erie Community College pitcher/infielder Mike Wagner was selected the Region III Player of the Year, announced today by the Region III coaches. Wagner, a sophomore from Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary's, was the region's top hitter entering the Region III Tournament.
Joining Wagner on the All-Region III first team was sophomore catcher Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls). Sophomore Matt Creenan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) was a second-team choice as designated hitter.

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - May 13 - The Niagara County Community College baseball team scored five runs in the third inning and added six runs in the fourth frame as the Thunderwolves downed Erie Community College 17-4 in Sunday's Region III Tournament championship game at Veterans Memorial Park.
ECC finishes the season 32-17. NCCC advances to the NJCAA Division III World Series in Tyler, Texas.

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - May 12 - The Erie Community College baseball team recorded an 11-10 win over Jamestown CC Saturday night at the Region III Tournament at Veterans Memorial Park. The Kats rebounded from a loss to Niagara County CC Saturday in the double-elimination tournament.
The Kats, now 32-16, play Niagara County CC in the championship game at noon. If ECC wins the noon contest, a second game will be held at approximately 3:30 p.m.
ECC had an 11-5 lead after five innings of play.

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - May 12 - If the Erie Community College baseball team is to repeat as Region III Tournament champions, the Kats will have to battle through the loser's bracket. Niagara County CC handed the Kats a 10-1 loss in seven innings Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park. As a result, ECC will play Jamestown CC at 7 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game.
ECC, now 31-16, saw its six-game streak snapped. ECC defeated Jamestown CC 5-1 Friday afternoon in the Region III Tournament and twice during the regular season.

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - May 11 - Behind a solid pitching performance from sophomore Brandon Nemeti (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), the Erie Community College baseball team recorded a 5-1 win over Jamestown CC Friday afternoon in the Region III Tournament at Veterans Memorial Park. The Kats, now 31-15, will play the winner of Friday night's Niagara County CC/Onondaga CC contest Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

 ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomores Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols), Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), and Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area) of the RIT baseball team were named to the 2012 All-Liberty League team, as the conference announced its selections on Wednesday, May 9. Canestro earned first team honors, while Roman was a second team selection, and Leichtenberger garnered honorable mention accolades.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - May 8 - Erie Community College baseball player Mike Wagner (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary's) was named the Region III Male Athlete of the Week Monday by the league office. Wagner, a sophomore pitcher/infielder, struck out 17 batters while allowing five hits in ECC's 3-2 win over Hudson Valley CC in the Region III Tournament this past weekend. Wagner, who was also named Region III Athlete of the Week April 23, improved his pitching record to 6-0. He also went 6-of-14 at the plate for the week with a double and a home run.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - May 5 - The Erie Community College baseball team will play Jamestown CC at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Region III Tournament at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls, N.Y. The Kats are 30-15 after winning two games Saturday against Hudson Valley CC in the tournament's opening round.
Jamestown CC advanced after defeating Schenectady County CC Saturday.

Kats Score Early in 16-1 Win over Hudson Valley CC, Record Sweep - Press Release

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - May 5 - The Erie Community College baseball team scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 16-1 win in five innings over Hudson Valley CC Saturday afternoon in Region III Tournament action at the ECC North Campus. The Kats then scored two runs in the eighth inning of the nightcap to pick up a 3-2 win. As a result of winning the two games in the best-of-three series, ECC will advance to the Region III Tournament semifinals in Little Falls, N.Y. Action starts Friday.
