BUFFALO, N.Y. – April 16 - The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently announced Erie Community College will be the host institution for the 2015, 2016, and 2017 NJCAA Bowling Championships.
ECC has been the host 43 times and will also be the host in 2014. The ECC women’s bowling team won the team title at the 2013 NJCAA Championships, held March 1-2 at the Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga, N.Y.
BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 22 - Five Members of the Erie Community College women's bowling team were recently named to the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA) Academic All-America team. Earlier this month, the Kats won the NJCAA National Bowling Invitational Championship, the program's 28th national title, at the Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga. To be on the team, bowlers needed to have a 3.5-or-higher grade-point average.
CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - March 2 - The Erie Community College women's bowling team won the program's 28th NJCAA Bowling Invitational Championship Saturday afternoon at the Thruway Lanes. ECC topped runner-up Iowa Central CC by 469 pins. On the men's side, Schenectady County CC held off Vincennes (Ind.) University, 13,500 to 13,343, for the title.
ECC's Liz Szpara (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Morgan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y./Tapestry Charter) finished second and seventh, respectively, in the All-Events standings to earn All-America status.
CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – March 1 – Erie Community College’s Gabby Damin (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) finished second in singles while the Kats’ team of Liz Szpara (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Alicia Alguire (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) were second in doubles during Friday’s action at the NJCAA Bowling Invitational Championships at Thruway Lanes.
As a result of those performances, the Kats lead after Friday's action with a score of 7,747.
UTICA, N.Y. - Feb. 17 - The Erie Community College bowling teams finished third at Sunday's Region III Tournament at the Pin-O-Rama Lanes. On the men's side, ECC had a total of 8,908 to finish behind Schenectady County CC and Hudson Valley CC while the ECC women's team's total of 8,806 trailed Mohawk Valley CC and Niagara County CC.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Feb. 3 - The Erie Community College women's bowling team picked up its third team title of the season as the Kats knocked down 6,857 pins to win Saturday's Mardi-Bob Invitational held at Mardi-Bob Lanes.
Leading the Kats was freshman Alicia Alguire (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) was second at 1,106. Classmate Tallie Papke (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) scatted 1,054 pins to finish fifth.
UTICA, N.Y. - Jan. 21 - The Erie Community College bowling teams participated in Sunday's Hawk Invitational ath the Pin-O-Rama and the ECC women's team finished second while the men's squad was fifth. Individually, sophomore Devon Miller (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) finished fifth overall at 1,823. He was second in the singles competition as his performance was highlighted by games of 258 and 259. On the women's side, freshman Liz Szpara (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) was fifth at 1,505.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Dec. 31 - The Erie Community College men's and women's bowling teams competed in the two-day Lehigh Valley Classic at the Parkway Lanes this past weekend. With freshmen Alicia Alguire and Liz Szpara placing in the top 30, the ECC women's team finished ninth with a 7,644 total. Alguire (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) was 28th at 886 while Szpara (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) was 30th at 881.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Dec. 29 - Erie Community College sophomore bowler Devon Miller (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) finished fourth at the 35-team 2012 Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic, held Thursday and Friday at the Playdrome Rosebowl. Miller had a 221.4 average in five games to record a 1,107-pin total, trailing the leader by 40 pins.
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Nov. 4 - The Erie Community College women's bowling team overcame a 144-pin deficit Sunday to win the Seventh Annual Big Red Invitational held at the Cort-Land Lanes. Behind a Bakers Game performance of 2,552, the Kats' two-day total of 7,341 topped the field by 98 pins.
