In the best of 3 series, Canisius only needed 2 games to defeat St. Francis for the Monsignor Martin Championship.
Game 1
Good defense and even better pitching is what won the game for Canisius on Sunday. After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Canisius pitcher Alex Heuer dominated. Heuer had a no-hitter for 4 1/3 innings, and went the complete game; striking out six, and giving up only one run on three hits and three walks.
St. Francis defeated St. Joe’s 9-6 in Thursday night’s Monsignor Martin semi-finals game.
In the see-saw match, St. Francis took an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, only to have St. Joe’s come back to score 3 runs with 2 outs in the top of the 2nd. Connor Rehbaum later tied the game for the Marauders in top of the 3rd on an RBI double chopped over the third basemen’s head.
