Canisius Captures 3rd Straight Georgetown Cup - Story

In the best of 3 series, Canisius only needed 2 games to defeat St. Francis for the Monsignor Martin Championship.

Game 1

Good defense and even better pitching is what won the game for Canisius on Sunday. After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Canisius pitcher Alex Heuer dominated. Heuer had a no-hitter for 4 1/3 innings, and went the complete game; striking out six, and giving up only one run on three hits and three walks.

St. Francis Advances to Georgetown Cup Final - Story

St. Francis defeated St. Joe’s 9-6 in Thursday night’s Monsignor Martin semi-finals game.

In the see-saw match, St. Francis took an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, only to have St. Joe’s come back to score 3 runs with 2 outs in the top of the 2nd. Connor Rehbaum later tied the game for the Marauders in top of the 3rd on an RBI double chopped over the third basemen’s head.

Aquinas’s Mike Messina Syracuse University Bound - Story

Mike Messina, a two sport star at Aquinas Institute in Rochester, at the start of his junior year of lacrosse in 2010 accepted an athletic scholarship to attend Syracuse University and play lacrosse for the current No. 1 ranked Orange team. He signed his letter of intent this February. After being the focal point of the winning Aquinas NYS Class A football champions last November Messina also was MVP of the title game versus Section 1 Harrison and capped off the trifecta voted co-player of the year in NYS Class A.

International Prep Brings Home Section Championship - Blog

JAMESTOWN- International Prep at Grover has welcomed quite a few new things in the past year: A new name for the school, a new head boys’ basketball coach, and a new classification.
Now the school gets to bring home a bit of new championship hardware.
The Presidents earned the Class C sectional championship on Friday night with its 65-53 victory over Tapestry Charter at Jamestown Community College.

While those teams have taken spots in the state rankings this season and top seeds in the sectional playoffs, little has been said about fourth-seeded Pine Valley. And that’s just the way the Panthers have liked it.

All of Western New York’s top high school hockey teams will hit the ice on Sunday, February 27 when the 27th annual Super Sunday High School Hockey Championships take place at HSBC Arena. This full day of seven championship games gets underway at 8 a.m. with the Southtowns Club League Final. For the second year in a row, Super Sunday will also include the three Federation championship games, beginning with the Monsignor Martin Final at 4 p.m.

LATHAM, NY – The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has announced tickets are NOW on sale for the 2011 High School Wrestling State Championships at the Times Union Center on Friday, February 25th and Saturday, February 26th. The Association has also released its official competition schedule for the upcoming tournament which is sponsored in part by Worldwide Sport Supply, Jostens, CSEA, MaxPreps, Global Sports, and the American Dairy Association.
