Mets Sign LHP Gustavo Chacin, OF Fernando Perez to Minor League Contracts, Assign to Bisons Roster - Press Release

 July 18, 2011- The New York Mets announced today that they have signed free agent LHP GUSTAVO CHACIN and OF FERNANDO PEREZ to minor league deals. Both players are active for the Bisons game tonight against the Syracuse Chiefs at Alliance Bank Stadium.

To make roster room, RHP JACK EGBERT has been transferred to the Double-A Binghamton Mets. OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 16.

Tonight is the All Star Game.  It's the only actual sporting event over a three day span.  Unless you count Womens' World Cup.  So, like I said, it's the only actual sporting event over a three day span.  This is the driest period of the sports year, which means that everyone needs something to debate on ESPN talk shows and sports radio.
More often than not, that topic is "How to fix the All Star Game."

The upcoming MLB draft doesn't have the unanimous first picks like the last 2 years. Strasburg and Harper, last year, were both special talents.
Looking at the broader picture this year, players by geography, California (C), Florida (F) and Texas (T) continue to provide the largest number of projected draftees.

Harmon Killebrew passed away Tuesday morning at his Scottsdale, Ariz., home. He was 74. Killebrew had been battling esophageal cancer, and he announced last week that his battle was coming to an end. Killebrew died peacefully, with his wife, Nita, and their family at his side.

Good news for Yankee prospects in Scranton, Trenton, and Tampa:  When you make it to the big leagues, it looks like the number 20 will be available after all.

 I know it was you, Jorge.  You broke my heart.  You broke my heart.

Fredo Posada betrayed the Yankee family last night.  With the Red Sox, who know a little something about using the Bronx Bombers to spur a Lazarus-like comeback, in town and on a run, Posada took one for himself.
